DVD Review - Louie - Season 1

About the DVD
Everyone’s favorite cynic Louis C.K brings his hilarious take on life in the complete first season of FX’s original comedy series, “LOUIE,” arriving on Blu-ray and DVD June 21. Be a stand-up member of the comedy community as you follow Louis’ adventures, and enjoy his unique perspective as he attempts to date, raise two daughters and live in the ever-bustling city of New York.

Already renewed for a second season, “LOUIE” is a comedy filtered through the observational humor of Emmy® Award-winner Louis C.K. Each episode spotlights Louis’ hectic life as a successful stand-up comedian and newly single father raising his two young daughters.

The single-camera comedy is a unique mix of Louis C.K.’s stand-up comedy and scripted stories. Louis C.K. serves as executive producer, writer and director and Dave Becky and 3 Arts Entertainment are executive producers.

LOUIE” Season 1 features all 13 episodes and bonus footage including deleted scenes, unaired and unrated comedy sketches and commentary as well as exciting guest appearances from comedians Ricky Gervais, Pamela Adlon, Nick DiPaolo, Todd Barry and Mathew Broderick.

My Take on the DVD

I had never had the chance to see this show during its first season so when I was offered a chance to review this DVD, I thought it would be a great time to check it out to see what I thought. In watching the DVD, I have to say that Louie C.K., is hilarious. His cynicism as well as his stand up acts stand out as being a character that will stand the test of time.

I found myself laughing continuously in some areas, and I found it interesting to watch his and realize that you could tell that the show was not a big budget production, however, you do get big budget results (if you know what I mean).

There were parts of the series where the comedy was a bit dark for myself and my family, but all-in-all, the show was definitely a keeper. Though I do not get HBO at home, I hope that a series 2 set like this will come out so that I can make sure to be able to catch up on what happens next season!

Book Review - There I fixed it!

About the Book
Whoever coined the phrase "A picture is worth a thousand words" clearly has not stumbled upon the Cheezburger Network's ThereIFixedIt.com. Here, a picture is worth countless inaudible gasps, and we're guessing more than a few quiet stares of disbelief.

There, I Fixed It (No, You Didn't) celebrates the kludge (a quick-and-dirty, clumsy, or inelegant-yet-effective solution to a problem, typically using parts that are cobbled together) in its many incarnations as presented on the popular Web site ThereIFixedIt.com. The book features over 200 full-color images of TIFI.com's daily kludge winners, along with the signature witty commentary that characterizes typical reactions to the hilarious DIY disasters and work-arounds.

If you're still unsure as to what qualifies, we think the minivan held together by duct tape leaves little room for confusion. After all, in that guy's defense, multiple rolls of carefully affixed duct tape are certainly cheaper than a new coat of paint (just try to avoid puddles and rain).

Certain to generate bellyache-inducing revelry, There, I Fixed It (No, You Didn't) may even inspire you to fashion your very own kludge. Please note that we give extra points to those brave enough to merge an open flame with a propane gas tank and electrical wire. Bonus points if you can then make the item travel on wheels at speeds greater than 50 miles per hour. So, home enthusiasts, would-be inventors, and all who miserably failed engineering, kludge away with the Cheezburger Network's There, I Fixed It (No, You Didn't).

About the AuthorThereIFixedIt.com was launched in May 2009 and currently receives 2 million unique visitors and 11 million page views every month. The site is now part of the Cheezburger Network, which receives 340 million page views per month and includes more than 45 humor sites, including I Can Has Cheezburger?, FAIL Blog, Failbook, Oddly Specific, ROFLrazzl, and There, I Fixed It--a virtual Internet media empire. Every day, more than 18,000 photos and videos are submitted, and page views are growing at an annual clip of 300 percent. In addition to its Web sites, the Cheezburger Network has also published five books, two of which, I Can Has Cheezburger? A LOLcat Colleckshun and How to Take Over Teh Wurld: A LOLcat Guide 2 Winning, were New York Times best-sellers.

My Take on the Boo
kI have had the opportunity to see a number of the books that have come out in the past from these same authors and each book was filled with the same type of crazy humor that was in this book. You have the opportunity to laugh and see some great hilarious things that people have done to make "fixes" for things. You will be amazed, flabbergasted and dumbfounded at some of the audacious things that people have done to fix things (I know that I was).

If you like to be amazed and you like to laugh then this book is for you!
