10 Week Giving Initiative Kicks Off at Home Run Derby

For the second straight year, State Farm and Major League Baseball (MLB) are giving fans from coast to coast the chance to deliver a big hit for their favorite charitable organization. Through theGo To Bat program, an online, charitable initiative driven by State Farm’s commitment to helping communities get to a better state, fans can support the causes that mean the most to them and take their shot at winning one of the $18,000 weekly donations for their favorite charity and a trip for two to the 2011 World Series.
Fans can visit www.statefarm.com/gotobat, select one of the designated charities on the website, then swing for the fences in the State Farm Go To Bat game to increase the batting average of their selected charity. Once a week, for 10 weeks, State Farm will make a donation of $18,000 to the charity with the highest Go To Bat game batting average. Also, an individual winner who goes to bat for the winning charity will be randomly selected and receive a trip for two to Games 3 and 4 of the 2011 World Series. A total of 10 winners will be drawn during the Go To Bat program, which stretches through the second half of the MLB season and concludes on September 26.
“State Farm has been, and continues to be, committed to helping our customers and their communities get to a better state,” said Todd Fischer, manager of national sponsorships for State Farm. “The Go To Bat program is a natural extension of State Farm and our commitment, giving fans the opportunity to go to bat for a charity that matters most to them.”
Fans can increase both their chances and their charity’s chances of winning by returning to www.statefarm.com/gotobatand playing the online State Farm Go To Bat game on a daily basis. Players can earn additional entries and increase their chances to win by sharing their participation on Facebook.
As part of the program launch, State Farm and MLB will partner together in support of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) and other selected charities to raise money for each home run hit in the 2011 State Farm Home Run Derby® tonight, July 11, at Chase Field. State Farm will pair up one member from eight Phoenix-area BGCA chapters with each Derby participant for the opportunity to win $50,000 for his or her individual club. State Farm will also award a $10,000 donation to each of the other seven participants’ clubs. All of the State Farm Home Run Derby festivities will be broadcast live on ESPN at 8 p.m. EDT / 5 p.m. PDT.
The Go To Bat program will culminate during the 2011 MLBWorld Series with a pre-game ceremony showcasing its collective impact and recognizing the individual winners and their chosen charities. Also, State Farm will announce and present a $25,000 donation to the charity that finishes the promotional campaign with the highest Go To Bat batting average.
Fans can get more information and enter the Go To Bat program online at www.statefarm.com/gotobat.

Ride4Water - Something Greater

Last Saturday, Katie Spotz and her biking partner Sam Williams set forth to break a world record by biking 3000 miles in less than eight days for Ride4Water — that’s 1.3 times as long as the Tour de France and in one-sixth the time.  Their journey, with the help of Levi's, also aimed to raise money for Blue Planet, a nonprofit dedicated to bringing safe drinking water to those without.

Above is the video that shows some of what Katie endured on her ride. After fracturing her pelvis, which forced her to use a handcycle, and dealing with a serious crash which landed her in the hospital, the race took on a whole new meaning. For Katie, it turned into something greater.

People can still help Katie and her team reach their goal of $100,000 by visiting their crowdrise donation page at http://crowdrise.com/ride4water.  Levi's is also donating $1 for each tweet that includes the #Ride4Water hashtag for up to $5,000 in addition to their sponsorship, and we'd love if your readers could help spread the word. We think it's a great story of the inspiring American spirit and perseverance of Katie.

No nonsense's New Sock Helps Millions

We all have to buy socks, so why not buy socks that are made well AND will help someone in need? No nonsense is launching its new Flex Fit sock, and as part of this launch, it is celebrating with the “Socks for America” campaign. This campaign will help give away one million pairs of socks to needy families throughout the country in conjunction with K.I.D.S. (Kids in Distressed Situations), a fashion-focused charity. Socks, along with underwear, are the most-requested item by nonprofit agencies and are the least donated. Socks are often the first “new” piece of clothing ever received by people needing help. Consumers can help donate even more socks by becoming a fan on Facebook or purchasing any No nonsense three-pack of socks. The campaign will launch this summer and run through the end of the year.

The Fresh Air Fund is Looking for Host Families

The Summer of 2011 is almost here! The Fresh Air Fund is in need of 1200 loving host families.
We are looking for families in the following areas to host THIS summer:

hostmapIf you or someone you know is able to host, please sign up now. In 2010, The Fresh Air Fund's Volunteer Host Family program, called Friendly Town, gave close to 5,000 New York City boys and girls, ages six to 18, free summer experiences in the country and the suburbs. Volunteer host families shared their friendship and homes up to two weeks or more in 13 Northeastern states from Virginia to Maine and Canada.

Thanks to host families who open up their homes for a few weeks each summer, children growing up in New York City’s toughest neighborhoods have experienced the joys of Fresh Air experiences.

More than 65% of all children are reinvited to stay with their host family, year after year.

Fresh Air Fund Host Families

"It is rewarding to see the smile on our Fresh Air child's face as she enjoys the simple things we take for granted..."

Friendly Town host families are volunteers who live in the suburbs or small town communities. Host families range in size, ethnicity and background, but share the desire to open their hearts and homes to give city children an experience they will
never forget. Hosts say the Fresh Air experience is as enriching for their own families, as it is for the inner-city children. There are no financial requirements for hosting a child. Volunteers may request the age-group and gender of the Fresh Air youngster they would like to host. Stories about real Fresh Air host families and their New York City visitors are just a click away!

“Meals for Moms” Mother's Day Campaign Helps Senior Moms

The Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) is launching its second annual Meals for Moms campaign to raise awareness of homebound senior moms facing the threat of hunger this Mother’s Day (Sunday, May 8th). Individuals can visit www.MealsForMoms.org to send a message of hope to a lonely and homebound senior mom or send an e-card to a special woman in their life. With the help of the official sponsor, Gallo® Family Vineyards, the campaign’s goal this year is to send 50,000 messages. All funds raised will go into the Meals for Moms Fund to help Meals On Wheels programs feed homebound senior moms around Mother’s Day next year.

“Most of us are very lucky to know the love of a mother. They are the ones who raised us and often prepared our meals. Now, too many of them are alone and hungry,” said MOWAA President and CEO, Enid Borden. “They deserve better, and that is why this campaign is so very important. Our moms need us.”
MOWAA-sponsored research reveals that a staggering six million seniors are facing the threat of hunger in America, and the numbers are growing. The majority of those seniors are women. Gallo Family Vineyards is a family-owned winery and understands the importance of family, sharing the firm belief that the world is a better place when we don't just take care of our own families, but take care of each other.

“We are proud to join MOWAA in its mission to feed more senior women,” said Stephanie Gallo, Vice President of Marketing at E&J Gallo Winery. “It’s important to find ways to give back. Working with Meals On Wheels is just one of the ways we’re trying to make our community better.”

At www.MealsforMoms.org, visitors can choose from a variety of flowers – including roses, tulips, and lilies – for the virtual bouquet they select to send with a message. Here are just a few examples of the thousands of messages sent to homebound moms across the country last year:

“Happy Mother's Day. Although we cannot meet, I am here caring for you in spirit.”
“I hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day! We all know its not easy raising a child and all mothers should get some credit for doing such an important job! So, happy Mother’s Day!”
“Mothers are special! I wouldn't be today the person I am if it wasn't for my great Mother (and Grandma too)! Happy Mother's Day. Hugs & kisses to all.”
