Bubble gum pop star Miley Cyrus of "Hanna Montana" fame tries to graduate to feature film headliner in this 2010 coming-of-age story.
It's a little too similar to last year's career move by another Disney-spawned teen singer-actress, Hilary Duff. Her film "According to Greta" was better received in a limited run, but "The Last Song" did far better at U.S. box offices, earning almost $63 million.
Both feel-good films are about a rebellious teen sent to live with relatives for the summer, during which tears are shed, romance is found, and familial relationships are healed.
"Last Song" is based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks, whose weepy books "The Notebook" and "Dear John" have been translated into successful films.
