Scott Kalitta died Saturday when his Funny Car exploded at 300 mph and then crashed into the barrier wall at the end of the track. Kalitta was racing in the final round of qualifying for the Lucas Oil NHRA Supernationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey.
Kalitta was taken to the Raritan Bay Medical Center where he died a short time later. Scott Kalitta, 46, had 18 career victories, 17 in Top Fuel and 1 in Funny Car. He was a resident of Palmetto, Florida.
We found another version (if it's still there) of the Kalitta crash here.
RIP Scott Kalitta. We extend our condolences to family and friends.
