Cool music, catchy rhymes, and colorful animated action keep kids focused on learning how to tell time.

Timothy Time is more than just a lovable character – he knows how to clearly explain the concepts of telling time. Unfortunately many kids, even older ones, do not know how to tell time using an analog clock – one with hands. Telling Time DVD offers the perfect solution.
Telling Time starts off easy and gives clear examples along with lots of humor and musical entertainment. Kids learn to tell time to the half hour, quarter hour, five minutes, and eventually to the minute. We've provided plenty of practice so that students build their skills every time this program is used. As a bonus, we've included days of the week, months of the year, and how calendars work.

My Take on the DVD Telling time is not an easy concept to master, especially for younger kids. This DVD takes this sometimes confusing concept and makes it that much simpler. Through the use of music and repetition, kids are taken on an adventure where they can rock along with Timothy Time.
For me, not only did I enjoy seeing my own kids learning as they watched the DVD, I also enjoyed seeing how they broke down the concepts into manageable parts, making it that much easier to understand for the viewer.
No more boring lessons, this DVD rocks along with the music to make learning fun!

My Take on the DVDI had reviewed Phonics 1 in the past and found this to be great for pre-K students, and Phonics 2 is a great follow-up to the first DVD going into more complex words and concepts. My daughter is going into first grade this next year and I can tell that this would be a great DVD for any first grade student.
With the use of great music and repetition, this DVD hits home the point of the importance of learning to read. What I loved about this DVD is that it makes reading fun, and I can tell that as a child you would just want to watch this to "rock out" as well as simply having fun with the on-screen characters.
All-in-all, this DVD provides kids a great way to learn!

My Take on the DVD
My eldest daughter is entering first grade this fall and she has some idea of addition and subtraction, but needs help in other areas. This DVD reinforces addition and subtraction concepts through repetition and music that kids just enjoy. After watching this a few times, I can see the wheels in her head moving and can tell that the numbers are starting to click. Though she still has some problems with subtraction, I know this will come in time and I know that this DVD will only continue to help in the future!
A great learning tool for any early math learners!

Penny and Bill know how to shake things up when it comes to counting money and making change. Cool songs and games provide plenty of practice with real-world skills. Learn about coins and how they relate to one another, strategies for counting cash, "skip counting," expressing money in written terms, how to make change, and more. You’ll have lots of fun as you gain valuable skills you can bank on.
For ages 6 & up. Approx. 57 minutes.
About the DVD
Penny and Bill have a problem. With their big concert to play, they must repair a broken speaker. Fortunately, Penny has been saving money in her piggy bank. But just how much does she have? Penny and Bill learn how to recognize coins, a little about the history of money, why coins and bills are starting to look different, and much more. They learn strategies for sorting coins and cash and use "skip counting" to find out exactly how much money they have.
After lots of counting money, Penny and Bill learn how to make change by pretending to buy funny items at a garage sale. You'll have time to practice counting money and making change right along with them before you hear the answers. Finally, at the big concert that evening, guess who's invited to join Penny, Bill on the front row?
My Take on the DVD This DVD does a great job at teaching kids the difference between American money (coins). Through fun characters and music the DVD presents a topic that always intrigues kids (what child does not want money or their parents' money).
What I loved about this DVD was the fun characters that led the change in learning. With fun names (Penny and Bill), viewers are taken on a journey into all of the coins that we have and how they can keep track of and count the money that they currently have and the money they will have in the future.
The DVD was fun and engaging and my eldest loved it, as she is my entrepreneur in our family!
Overall, this DVD is a great resource for all kids to help them in being more knowledgeable about how money works. I just hope that it helps with my girls' chores, as maybe now they will do them without a hassle... but only time will tell!

My Take on the DVD Another great addition to the Rock 'N Learn series! With my youngest headed off to pre-school next year I loved having this DVD just for her. Many of the other DVD's that I have reviewed in this series have been above her head, though she still enjoys then none-the-less (I think it is the muic and characters).
All-in-all this DVD and the repetition that it offers allows kids to get a handle on some of the basic words that they will need to know prior to and during Kindergarten. Thus this DVD is a great starter for the Rock 'N Learn set!

About the Book Math concepts can seem very abstract, but in just a short time, literally in just 5 minutes, students can learn how to multiply. This book concretely shows what multiplication is, instead of just having students memorize the times tables. It gives step-by-step instructions as well as sample problems showing how the process works. A natural flow occurs throughout the book as concepts get more difficult. Also included are easy ways to divide, find least common multiples, and square roots. This simple, hands-on method will help students achieve a better understanding of mathematics and boost self-confidence as well. Students will become so proficient they will be able to teach Sticks and Steps to others who struggle with multiplication and division. Multiply and Divide with Sticks® and Steps is easy to learn, easy to teach, and so logical, it's easy to remember. An essential resource for parents and educators to carry with them in their bag of tricks.
My Take on the Book This book is a hands on instruction booklet using an innovative method of teaching multiplication and division. The Sticks and Steps method is a multisensory method that can be learned , taught and remembered.
As a former educator, I viewed each page with intense scrutiny. I can see how the process can assist students with basic multiplication and division. It will take more practice to understand the more difficult multi step processes, but it is definitely doable.
Children using this process with need the time and paper to go through the steps. It is a way though to help those students who definitely cannot learn in the traditional way in the classroom.

Caryn Antonini, graduate of the Georgetown University School of Languages and Linguistics, has created the new, innovative learning tool – EARLY LINGO. It was at the University that Caryn cultivated her understanding of a child’s acquisition of language and the relationship to their cognitive development. As a new mother, Caryn wanted to give her child the advantages of learning a foreign language as an infant and all the subsequent benefits it would bring to her child later in life, but was unable to find anything on the market that would accomplish this effectively.
The interactive program allows young children to become familiar with a foreign language through immersive and repetitive learning techniques.
The use of playful animation and live-action video create a stimulating visual context.
The Early Lingo Series is the first of its kind, offering a solid foundation in learning foreign languages. With frequent exposure any child will be able to speak with no accent and familiarity.
Early Lingo uses the Total Immersion Method, a method that immerses the child immediately into the target language with no use of translation.
Early Lingo uses native speakers who articulate, speak slowly and use comprehensible words and phrases that are easy for the child to understand.
Children can learn a foreign language in their own home at any given time, an easy and convenient learning experience for all.
Studies show that children who are bilingual or multilingual perform better in other academic areas and adjust to new situations more easily later in life. These children statistically earn higher scores in SATs (both math and verbal), show significant gains in IQ performance, and exhibit advanced mental flexibility and superiority in concept formation compared to their monolingual counterparts. Children experience enhanced cognitive development as well as sociocultural benefits.
Research proves that children have a greater advantage over others if they learn a foreign language at the same time they are learning their primary language – the second language will be simultaneously stored neatly and subconsciously in the same area of the brain. Children are not confused by learning additional languages, despite the propensity for this in adults –their brains create separate and unique neural pathways for each language. With frequent, repetitive exposure any child will be able to speak with familiarity and no accent.
Why no accent with Early Lingo? A learning window begins to close at 6 years of age, and by the time a child reaches his twelfth year he may no longer be able to speak without an accent. A famous example of this phenomenon is the case of Henry Kissinger. When he arrived in the United States as a boy, Henry was 12 years old and his younger brother was 10. Henry has retained a strong accent whereas his brother has none at all. Starting a linguistic program early is the key – Early Lingo!
Total Immersion The Early Lingo Series is organized into 12 familiar everyday activities.
Each DVD is a mini-adventure using relative words and expressions that engage the child.
Children can watch anytime, anywhere without the need for adult interaction or supervision, however, we encourage the parent or caregiver to participate alongside the child.
With Early Lingo’s use of the Total Immersion Method, the child is immersed immediately into the target language with no use of translation – proven to be the most effective and natural method of learning a new language. Your toddler will be mesmerized by entertaining characters and content as they learn!
My Take on the DVDMy wife was an elementary Spanish teacher before our children were born, thus I was excited to have her try out this DVD and see what she thought about the series itself. In watching it with our daughters I could see what they were talking about in regards to the full immersion. This DVD jumps right into the language. What was nice was that the DVD continues to go over the same type of objects in different ways throughout the DVD. I liked how you could set the DVD to either run once or continuously. Though my girls are older, I could see how if I had this earlier in their life, they would have been very intrigued and the repetition with images would be great in helping the kids to learn the language. While I tried out Spanish, I was also excited to see that a parent could also get DVD's in French as well as Mandarin and Italian (Available this year). If the other DVD's are anything like the first, I would be happy to have them in my own home!

Homework Helpers: Basic Math and Pre-Algebra will help build a solid mathematical foundation. Particular attention is placed on topics that students traditionally struggle with the most. The topics are explained in everyday language before the examples are worked. The problems are solved clearly and systematically, with step-by-step instructions provided. Problem-solving skills and good habits, such as checking your answers after every problem, are emphasized, along with practice problems throughout, and the answers to all of the practice problems are provided.
Homework Helpers: Chemistry is a user-friendly review book that is an excellent review for any standardized chemistry test, including the SAT-II, although its real value is in providing support and guidance during the year’s entire course of study.Concepts are explained in clear, easy-to-understand language, and problems are worked out with step-by-step methods that are easy to follow. Each lesson comes with numerous review questions and an answer key that explains each correct answer and why it’s correct.
The HomeworkHelpers books are easy-to-use, no-nonsense guides that clearly explain what to do and provide examples of how to do it. Whether it’s for a student to supplement what he or she is learning in class, or for parent who want to “brush up” in order to help their children, HomeworkHelpers is like having a private tutor.
Homework Helpers: Basic Math and Pre-Algebra(EAN 978-1-60163-168-8, pages: 256, price: $14.99) and Homework Helpers: Chemistry (EAN 978-1-60163-163-3, pages: 336, price: $16.99) were published by Career Press. The books are available at Barnes & Noble, Borders, Amazon.com, and many other booksellers.
Career Press was founded in 1985 as a niche publisher of career directories that since has grown into one of the best-known independent publishers of its kind. Career Press, which now boasts an active, strong-selling backlist of nearly 300 titles spanning careers, personal finance, business management, and study skills, celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2010.
My Take on the BooksThese books were great and were definitely ones that will help any type of student that is in need of help for homework or simply understanding a specific topic. What was nice about this series of book is that they are written in such a way that it was like you had your own tutor right there holding your hand and helping you understand the topics, taking difficult concepts and making them more manageable.
For me, Chemistry and Algebra were both topics that I struggled with in the past. I had to work very hard to understand the concepts and get them down. What I was impressed with after exploring was that this series of books covers more than the books that I reviewed. They actually have everything from these areas to Biology, Physics and other areas.
So no matter what topic you need help with, if it has to do with Science or Math, I would highly recommend the Homework Helper books as they were easy to understand and completely written with the user in mind!
