Newlywed Dylan Lauren finally shows off bridal gown designed by fashion mogul father Ralph

By Tamara Abraham

A dress to impress: Dylan Lauren, who married Paul Arrouet at her family's Bedford estate last month, models the custom-made wedding gown designed by her father in the new issue of Vogue

As the daughter of fashion designer Ralph, there was no question that Dylan Lauren's wedding dress was going to be something special.

But when the 37-year-old's big day came around last month, it is clear that her father had surpassed all expectations.

The confectionery entrepreneur, who married hedge fund manager Paul Arrouet at her family's Bedford Estate last month, wore a handmade duchesse satin, silk tulle, georgette embroidered dress with a tiered train.

The custom-made gown, which she wears for a photoshoot celebrating her marriage in the August issue of Vogue, was kept under security guard at Ralph Lauren's New York headquarters prior to the wedding.

Mr Lauren, 71 who walked his daughter down the aisle with his wife, Ricky, is said to have consulted his former protegée and grande dame of bridalwear Vera Wang on the design of the dress.

He admitted in an interview with Oprah Winfrey in May that creating the gown was an emotional experience.

He said: 'I had to do something that was better than ever before. When you do something for your family or your daughter, I mean it's the only daughter I have - beautiful girl.

High stakes: Ralph Lauren, 71, said that Dylan's dress had to be better than anything he had done before

'I want to just give her something that she'd really treasure and give her something that would be really amazing. I want her to feel fantastic.'

It seems he has done well though, as Ms Lauren was full of praise for her father's work. She described the gown as 'the most amazing thing because it's really stunning.

'I told my fiancé, "I may sleep in it. I might wear it the next day,"' she added. 'It's really beautiful. I know that every bit of his energy and heart went into making sure that I liked it.'

The photographs appear alongside a feature by Andre Leon Talley, who was among the guests of the star-studded wedding.

In addition to the much-anticipated dress, Mr Talley describes Ms Lauren's attention to detail in planning the wedding, from her bridesmaids' dresses, designed by her father in the colours of her company logo, to the engraved chocolate bar place settings.

He told how Martha Stewart, a friend of the family, helped him identify the hydrangeas, roses and lilies in the table centrepieces and how the Sylvia Weinstock cake featured Ms Lauren's favourite rabbit motif.

But it seems that like every bride, Ms Lauren suffered from last minute dramas - in her case about the weather.

She told Mr Talley after the ceremony: 'I cried today about the rain. Was it OK?'
Her mother, Ricky, however, who gave a toast to her daughter, admitted she was thrilled about having two of her children marry in such quick succession (Dylan's brother David, 39, is to wed Lauren Bush later this summer).

She said: It's like a fashion show. You finish one, then on to the next.'
