Lady Gaga for Harper's Bazaar

Horn this way.

Harper's Bazaar's May 2011 issue features Lady Gaga photographed by Terry Richardson. We don't think the collaboration works. That cover simply isn't a very good picture. In fact, it's one of the worst pictures of Gaga we've ever seen.

On plastic surgery: "I have never had plastic surgery, and there are many pop singers who have. I think that promoting insecurity in the form of plastic surgery is infinitely more harmful than an artistic expression related to body modification."

On McQueen working through her: "I think he planned the whole thing: Right after he died, I wrote 'Born This Way.' I think he's up in heaven with fashion strings in his hands, marionetting away, planning this whole thing."

On reaching a saturation point with the media: "You can quote me on this: People love you when they think you won't be around for very long, and people hate you when they can't get rid of you. But I'm not going anywhere."

Bodysuit, Francesco Scognamiglio.

It's such an odd collaboration. Richardson has one style from which he never really deviates: a flat, overlit, Polaroid-style picture with undertones of girlie magazine photography if not outright pornography. Gaga works in a much more glam, over-the-top style. The piano shot mostly works, but the rest of them just look odd to us. And we're not crazy about her makeup here. She can look more striking than this. It actually looks a little sloppy. Enh. Just not feeling this one. Considering the subject of the pictures, the whole thing just feels a little phoned in. The clothes are gorgeous, though. Could've done without the spider-eyes tits, but what are you gonna do? It's Gaga.
